Simple Present

Hai teman teman, selamat datang di e-kelas.com. Kita akan membahas simple tenses yang terdiri dari: Simple PresentSimple PastSimple Future.

Simple present tense expresses events or situation that exist (they exist now, have existed in the past and probably will exist in the future), fact, habitually and general truth.
Tense ini untuk menunjukkan fakta, kebiasaan, kebenaran umum atau kejadian yang terjadi secara terus menerus / kontiniu.




Function of simple present are:
  1.   Present tense expresses the idea that an action is repeated or regular action in the present time period. Examples:
·     I take my motorcycle to school.
          (Saya naik motor ke sekolah)

·     My grandma always cooks delicious meal for dinner during this month.
        (Nenek saya selalu memasak makanan lezat untuk makan malam dalam bulan ini)

·     The train leaves to Medan every two hours.
          (Kereta api berangkat ke Medan setiap dua jam sekali)

  2.  It also expresses Habitual Action (kebiasaan) usually followed by adverb of frequency (always, often, usually, every day/week, month, all the time, etc) as a time signals. Examples:
·     I study English every night at home
          (Saya belajar bahasa Inggris setiap malam dirumah)

·     We walk together every Saturday night.
          (Kami jalan bersama setiap malam minggu)

·     I get up early everyday .
         (Saya bangun pagi sekali setiap pagi)

  3.  Present tense also expressses a general truth or factual action (kebenaran umum/fakta yang tak terbantahkan). Examples:

·     The sun rises from the east
          (matahari terbit dari ufuk timur)

·     A week have seven days
    (Seminggu ada 7 hari)

·          Water boils at 100 degrees celcius
        (Air mendidih pada 100 derajat celcius)

Present tense with linking verb be (am,is,are)
Pattern:      S + am, is are + adjective
Examples:
·        She is beautiful
(Dia cantik)
·        They are really good students
(Mereka adalah siswa yang baik)
·        I am a teacher
(Saya adalah seorang guru)
Present tense with verb 
Perhatikan Perbedaan di Subjectnya
1.     Positive sentence
Pattern:
S (you, we, they) + V-I
S (he, she, it) + V-I -s,-es,-ies
Examples:
You read book everynight.
She reads book everynight.

2.     Negative sentence
Pattern:
S (you, we, they) + do not V-I
S (he, she, it)+does not+V-I
Examples:
You  do not read book everynight.
She does not read   book everynight.

3.     Interrogative sentence
Pattern:
Do + S (you, we, they) + V-I....?
Does + S (he, she, it) + V-I..?
Examples:
Do you read book everynight?
Does she read book everynight?
If the subjects are third singular person, we add –s,-es,-ies after the verb.

1. For verbs that end in -O, -CH, -SH, -SS, -X, or -Z we  add -ES in the third singular person.
  • go – goes
  • catch – catches
  • watch - watches
  • wash – washes
  • pass - passes
  • kiss – kisses
  • fix – fixes
  • buzz – buzzes
2. For verbs that end in a consonant + Y, we remove the Y and add -IES.
  • marry – marries
  • study – studies
  • carry – carries
  • worry – worries
  • fly – flies
  • cry - cries
NOTE: For verbs that end in a vowel + Y, we just add -S.
  • play – plays
  • enjoy – enjoys
  • say – says
Time signal
·    every... (setiap), everynight, everyminute, everytime, everyday,...etc
·        always (selalu)
·        usually (biasanya)
·        often (sering)
Short Answers with Do and Does
1.     Do you like chocolate?
Yes, you do (affirmative)
2.     Do I need an eraser?
Yes, I do (affirmative)
3.     Do you both like cookies?
No, We don’t (negative)
4.     Do they like chocolate?
No, They don’t (negative)
5.     Does he like chocolate?
Yes, He does (affirmative)
6.     Does he like banana?
Yes, He does (affirmative)
7.     Does she like chocolate?
No, He doesn’t (negative)
8.     Does it have four wheels?
No, It doesn’t (negative)
Present tense in dialog.
Dialog 1
Ana   : Dila, let me introduce to a friend of mine, Niko.
Dila   : How do you do Niko.
Niko  : How do  you do, You have a nice house. I love it.
Dila   : Thanks.
Ana   : By the way, Niko is good at cooking. He cooks everyday.
Dila   : Really? That is amazing. You should try it.
Niko  : Well, I have cooking class every sunday afternoon, do    
           you want to join with us?
Ana   : It will be nice.
Dila   : Absolutely.
Dialog 2
Danu : Look at that! Where does Bayu go?
Willy : I don’t know but before he entered the class this morning he
           told me that his mother is sick.
Danu : I’m sorry to hear that. Do you have his phone number?
Willy : Yes, I have. What for?
Danu : I have to call him and ask where her mother hospitalized is.
Willy : Do you have a plan to go there?
Danu :Yes I have, do you want to come with me?
Willy : of course.
Danu : Let’s go.
